Woolwich Healthy Communities and the Township of Woolwich announce a new environmental initiative for Woolwich Township.

In February 2004, an Environmental Enhancement Committee was created through a partnership between Woolwich Healthy Communities and the Township of Woolwich. The primary objective of the 11 member Committee is to improve the quality of the environment in Woolwich Township.

Key responsibilities
  Developing an Environmental Enhancement Plan
  Developing and managing a Reforestation Plan
  Mobilizing the community to implement the plans

Possible Initiatives

  Promoting public awareness of and education in environmental enhancement
  Initiating environmental programs
  Providing comments to Council on environmental issues, as requested by Council
  Proposing work plans based on priorities identified by the Committee


Funding
  $10,000 is available in the Township budget annually for projects implemented by the Committee
  The Environmental Enhancement Plan, yearly work plan, budget and implementation measures must first be endorsed by the Woolwich Healthy Communities Coordinating Committee and then presented to Council for approval.
  Work project specifics, logistics and volunteer organization are considered and approved by the Committee.


The Committee is comprised of four members from Woolwich Healthy Communities, five members of the public and one Township staff member. Committee members are appointed for a four-year term co-incident with the term of Council.
Committee members appointed for the 2006 - 2010 term are Mark Bauman (chair), Susan Bryant, Janet Cox, Graham Gladwell, Dennis Martin, Al Murray, Inga Rinne, Shannon Holton, Tricia Brubacher, Art Woods, alternate Steve Racey and Ann Roberts (staff support).

The Committee is looking for ideas for environmental enhancement projects in Woolwich Township. We have some ideas, but we would very much like to hear from Woolwich residents. Please contact any Committee member with suggestions for project areas.

Volunteer Work Parties:

Woolwich Community Clean-up Day: Saturday April 26 2008,8:30 am until noon
Join us to help clean up litter in Woolwich Township.  Remember, every litter bits helps!  Call Ann about where to meet in your community or with the adopt-a-road program, 519 669-1647 x 265 or 519 664-2613 x 265 or aroberts@woolwich.ca .  Please note that adopt-a-road volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
 

Tree Planting: Saturday May 3 2008, 8:30 until noon.
