2006 HIKE SCHEDULE

 

Those interested in hikes are asked to contact Paul Miller (664-3643) to confirm meeting times and locations.  Look for the sign saying “Hike Today” at the meeting location.

 

 

Sunday, January 15, 2 pm:  2hr skiing and snow shoeing at Sandy Hills Pinery Trail. 

From Elmira, take Arthur Street north and turn right onto Sandy Hills Drive (#3).  Travel approximately 1 km and look for fire number #390 on the south side of the road.

 

Sunday, March 23, 2 pm: 2 hr hike on the Kissing Bridge Trailway/TCT at Ariss

From Elmira take Line 86 east towards Guelph.  In Ariss turn left or north-east onto Wellington County Road 51.  Turn right on Schuett Road; meet in the parking lot. Trail rating:  easy walking stone dust trail.

 

Sunday, April 16, 2 pm: 2 hr hike on the Health Valley Trail, St. Jacobs

Meet at the kiosk at the trail entrance behind the fire station in St. Jacobs.  Take King St. north to Albert St.  Turn right or east on Albert and follow through to the back of the municipal parking lot to the kiosk. Trail rating: first half is stone dust trail followed by natural path on varying topography.   No dogs or baby buggies on the second half of the trail please.

 

Sunday, May 14,  2 pm: 2 hr hike on Grand Valley Trail from Rosendale to Victoria Street.

Enjoy the spring wildflowers!  Meet on Hopewell Creek Road just east of Sawmill Rd (at Rosendale Corners).  Trail rating: earthen natural path on varying topography; suitable for intermediate hikers.

 

Sunday, June 11, 2 pm: Discover the new trail system around the Hopewell Creek development in Breslau, 2 hr hike.

Enjoy the new trail system as part of the new Hopewell Creek residential development.  Meet in Breslau at Denison Print at 61 Woolwich St. N.  Trail rating:  stone dust trail plus earthen natural path on varying topographyNo baby buggies or dogs please.

 

Sunday, June 11, 2 pm: 2 hr bike hike

Join Brad Fisher of Green Valley Bicycle Tours for a bike hike on local trails and some country back roads of Woolwich and Wellesley Townships.  Please meet Brad at the Observer parking lot at 20 Arthur St. North (where the trail crosses Arthur St.).

 

Sunday September 17, 1 pm picnic and 2 pm 7 km/2 hour hike on Lions Lake Trail near Floradale 

Pack a lunch and join us for a picnic at 1 pm followed by a 2 hour hike at 2 pm.  Beverages provided.  This is a great trail for your family to enjoy.  Meet at the Floradale park ball diamond behind the Mennonite Church on Florapine Road near Floradale Road #19.  Trail rating:  easy, well maintained trail; includes gravel, earthen and grassed sections. Washroom available.

 

Sunday, October 1, 2 pm:  Enjoy the fall colours at Schneiders Woods, 2 hr hike.

Enjoy the fall colours at Schneider’s woods! Meet at the access point at the corner of Wideman Road and the Wilmot Line (Wilmot/Waterloo boundary). This is one concession south-west of Erbsville.  Bring drinking water. Trail rating: challenging hike due to steep hills.  No baby buggies or dogs please.

Sunday, October 15, 2 pm:  Enjoy the fall colours on the Grand Valley Trail near Elora, 2 hr hike.

From West Montrose, take Middlebrook Road (#62) north into Pilkington Township.  Continue north on Middlebrook Road to Eight Line Road and turn right.  Park on the north side of the road approximately half of a kilometre west of the bridge.

Trail rating: challenging hike due to steep hills.  No baby buggies or dogs please.

 

Sunday, November 19, 2 pm: Discover the new Lions Ring Trail in Elmira, 2 hr hike. 

Enjoy the new stone dust trail in Elmira.  Meet at the trail entrance on the east end of Oriole Parkway just west of the train tracks.   Trail rating: easy walking level stone dust trail.  Washroom available.
