Ways people in Woolwich influenced
decision-making in 1998:
Do you feel that Council
is listening?
If you could change something about Woolwich, what would it be?
- Develop neighbourhood groups with a spokesperson to be at council meetings
- Public meeting process is good but citizens’ opinions must be upheld as a result of these processes. The results of recent meetings have lead to much cynicism, justifiably.
- Township staff [would] really listen and take ideas of people seriously and that "ordinary" people have sound ideas as well as themselves. They aren’t the only ones with knowledge to solve our problems.
- Ensure that Woolwich continues to envision the future and adjust to future needs - do not live in the past.
- Move Township Council to a central location. There’s more to the township than Elmira.
- Have a council that would only look out for our best interests without being persuaded to do things by the so called power people ie. companies and some individuals.
- Get rid of the good old boys club which skirts environmental and health concerns.
- Careful planning that doesn’t swallow up wood lots and farmland.
- Regard St. Jacobs as a town, not a commodity.
- Have council lighten up. Work cooperatively , efficiently, and not use needless criticism of each other in discussions and decision-making.
