How to Nurture a Feeling of Community

Recipe for a caring place to live:
  • greet people on the street
  • teach children to respect peoples' differences
  • lend things to your neighbours
  • ask to help if someone looks lost or in a pickle
  • organize a neighbourhood potluck
  • get to know the local store owners
  • invite someone over for supper

  • volunteer with a local group
  • be a good listener
  • form a rotating "work bee" to help each other out with house repairs, a quilt, etc...
  • approach the person you're in conflict with to talk about it
  • assume others have the best intentions
  • join a community club or group
