What is community? How do we know when we’ve got it? What are the signs and circumstances that give each of us a sense of being part of a community? When the Sustainable Communities Group decided to produce a Community Report, these were the first questions we had to ask, in order to get started. At one meeting we brainstormed, thinking about all the different things that are indications of a ‘feeling of community’. We came up with a long list - from friendly neighbours, to rural gathering spots like parks and schools and post offices, to being able to count on gettting help when you need it, to the sight of homes, villages and farms scattered about the countryside.
