A wide variety of amenities are available across Woolwich Township. Local government and service clubs have collaborated to provide residents and visitors with arenas, a swimming pool, and natural and sports parks. Hiking trails and public transportation provide linkages throughout the Township and into the cities. Gathering places and churches allow residents to meet for religious worship and social interaction. While there is a noticeable lack of facilities in some areas of the Township and a shortage of recreation for teens, activities are available to suit most interests.

Woolwich boasts 19 public parks, 2 arenas, a swinmming pool, 6 hiking trails and many natural open spaces. Canoeing, fly-fishing, hiking, swimming and team sports are close at hand and readily accessible. A new trail is being developed on an old rail right-of-way between West Montrose and Elmira. While the Township owns the land used for parks, local service clubs and recreation associations are responsible for most of the development and maintenance.

The lack of teen activities is a serious concern to teens and adults alike. While other groups have planned recreation programs and spaces, there are only occasional events, such as dances, for teens.

Many of the small villages have few, if any, recreational facilities and programs nearby. A common lament among people in the small villages is that community meeting places no longer exist or are exclusive to a few.

Community Amenities: the comforts or niceties that a community offers such as parks, swimming pools, transportation, meeting places, and trails.

What you can do to improve community amenities:
  • Volunteer with an organization that provides transportation.
  • Join a group that helps make trails happen.
  • Donate land, money, benches, and/or time to improve and encourage new parks, arenas, and trails.
  • Tend our present trails, parks, arenas, and meeting places by picking up after ourselves and others, staying on the paths, and leaving nature as it is for others to enjoy after us.
  • Volunteer with other places and groups which provide amenities.
  • Contact the Township and Region to share our ideas for improved community amenities
  • Join your local Parks and Recreation Association
