4. 2006
Hike Schedule: Paul, Murr=
ay and
Ann met to draft the 2006 hike schedule.&n=
bsp;
The group reviewed the draft at the meeting. Lucien suggested that t=
he
group incorporate a picnic lunch into one of the hikes, possibly Floradale =
as
it has a nice park with picnic tables. Lucien suggested that the group get=
a
sponsor to supply beverages. =
The
group could use the picnic time to meet hikers and talk about the local tra=
ils
and the WTG. A decision was m=
ade to
have the Floradale hike in September and the Health Valley trail hike in
April. Loretta and Mark offer=
ed to
lead the Breslau hike in June, Eleanor and Brad will lead the January hike,
Paul will lead the March hike. If
there is a hike that you would like to lead or help lead please let Ann kno=
w.
We are also looking for a sec=
ond
contact person for hikes. This
person would have their phone number listed on the hike schedule for hikers=
to
call to get more detail re meeting location etc. Please let Ann know if you migh=
t be
interested.
Paul sug= gested that flyers be posted at bulletin boards around the Township (i.e. the post offices) to advertise the hikes—one in the spring with just the spring hikes and one for the fall with a title such as “Get fit! Take a hike”. Loretta offered to submit the new h= ike schedule to the KW record to be included in their community page. Ann will submit the schedule to th= e GVT for their newsletter. Gloria = will send it to Observer and Independent. Other ideas to promote hikes: send inf= ormation to schools located near the hike locations, churches, Waterloo library.
5. November
20th hike on the KBT:
Jane reported that 10 people hiked that day. The weather was extremely nice.
6. Woolwich
Township Trail Plan: Open
houses were held in early November.
The report will go to council in early January. Ann will advise members of the dat=
e when
available. The public will ha=
ve an
opportunity at council to make comments on the plan.
7. Unleashed
dogs on trails and parks:
Several members as well as comments from the KBT survey noted a safe=
ty
concern about unleashed dogs as well as the inconvenience of dog
droppings. Could an area(s) in
Woolwich be designated as leash free?
Bechtel Park in Kitchener has a fenced leash-free area as does the a=
rea
behind the Kitchener Humane Society.
The area behind the water treatment plant in St. Jacobs was suggeste=
d as
well as a section of the Township-owned land in the Elmira Industrial lands=
. Ann to pursue with Larry. Could stoop and scoop signs be post=
ed
along the KBT? A suggestion w=
as
made to have signs posted on the HVT saying: “For the safety of others
please keep your dog on a leash”.
8=
. WHC

the trail crests presented at the dinner. If you have other ideas for the
event please let Joy or Inga know. 3- What role would you like to see t=
he
CC play in the update of the Region’s official plan. Please advise Joy or Gloria of =
your
comments.
