Meeting = Minutes

Chair person: Gloria Yeung

 

Those attending: Mark Bauman, Shirley Craig, Clint Roh= r, Brenda Kempel, Joyce Cummings, Paul Miller,

 

1.      Guidebook Distribution:  Via e-mail, Eleanor reported that sales are going well and that there was nothing notab= le to report.  Distribution is up= to date.

2.      Guidebook Reprint:  Lisa was not pre= sent to report.  We will continue t= he discussion about need for a reprint as stock dwindles. 

3.      WTG Membership Report and renewal package: Brenda reported that all members= hip packages have been sent out.

4.      March 18 hike report: Paul reported that there were four people out on the hike.  The weather may have be= en a factor, since last year this hike numbered 30.  

5.      2007 HC Month: Clint passed around flyers that detail the month’s events.  The flyers look great…bright green!  Organization for the events are pretty much in hand.  Gloria handed out Joy’s “left to do” list should anyone like to help out.

6.       Hike on a Bus:  April 12,  9:30 – 12 noon:  Clint and Shirley will be leading = this event.  Gloria to meet at 9:00= at the community center to receive payment, and distribute materials.  She will bring the Hike today sign= and take it to Mark’s afterward.  Gloria, Shirley and Clint will meet to define the route and make not= e of stops at places of interest.  = On the bus we will hand out WTG and WHC brochures, a route map, HC month flyer, foodlink postcards and have available guidebooks and a few “Buy Local” maps.

7.      Mill Race Walking Circuit:  Glo= ria will continue with the mapping exercise.

8.      CW Optimist Report:  Pete was= not present to report.

9.&n= bsp;     Grand Valley Trails Updates: Eleanor = left message that a tree was down along the GVT on the section north of the Twp boundary on the way to Inverhaugh.  This info was passed on to Joyce.&n= bsp; Joyce reported that the sideloop trail for the kissing bridge area at West Montrose was well favoured by the trailways advisory board however they did not have quorum at their last meeting and could not put forth a vote.  Hike= Leaders training courses have been well attended with more workshops on the way.  Joyce and Jamie Hember met with the Operations Manager for Preston Sand and Gravel at Snyder’s Flats to discuss  signage about a propo= sed bridge across a ravine.  Signa= ge and hunting were discussed.   Dog Leash signage installed by the Township has been torn down.  Mark will look into this issue wit= h the Township.   Please speak = to Joyce or check the GVTA website for more information about the following events: Black Walnut Trial Captains Party at Joyce’s house March 31, 2007; GV= TA Annual General Meeting Sunday April 22, 2007; Outdoor Trail Design Workshop April 28, 2007; Wacky Women Outing Trail Maintenance, Wednesday April 18, 2= 007; Trail Maintenance north of West Montrose, Tuesday April 24, 2007; Spring Tr= ail Cleanup close to the Wellington County Boundary, Saturday May 19, 2007.

10.&= nbsp; HVT washout area:  Mark reported on washouts along th= e HVT trail due to spring flooding and heavy rains.  He will speak with the Township an= d look into repair of the culvert area.

11.&= nbsp; Breslau Update:  Neither Lisa nor Loretta were present to report.

Other Business: Gloria brought in a nice article that was recently in “The Grand” magazine about Warren and Mart= ha Stauch and their travels.  Congratulations Warren.  John Robinson sent another report about Website traffic.  John writes: Below are the stats for the WHC web s= ite for March. I thought I would share this as it is interesting what happens w= hen the web site is mentioned in the Record (Kyle Chatt Articles). Kyle’s first mention of our web site was in an article published on March 13. For about 3 days, the visits to the web site were elevated. Good publicity for = us!

12.     Next Meeting:  Thursday May 17th at 7:= 15 pm at the St. Jacob’s firehall.  Gloria will book the meeting room.

 

Dates to Remember:

Sunday = April 15, 2 pm: 2 hr hike on the Health Valley Trail, St. Jacobs.<= span style=3D'color:#333333'>

Join Mark for= an afternoon of birding and hiking. Meet at the kiosk at the trail entran= ce behind the fire station in St. Jacobs. Take King St. north to Albert St. Turn right or east on Albert and follow to the back of the parking= lot near the kiosk. Trail rating: first half is stone dust followed by nat= ural path on varying topography. 

Saturda= y April 28, 9 am: Fun run/walk and cycling along the Kissing Bridge Trailway

Cyclists are = invited to join Brad Fisher and runners are invited to join Corinne Taylor for a 5 = to 15 km run along the KBT. Trail rating: level stone dust surface. = Call Brad at 519-669-9067 or Corinne at 519-669-8399 for more information.<= /o:p>

Sunday = April 29, 2 pm: 2 hr/6 km hike on the Grand Valley Trail at Snyder's Flats.

This section = of the GVT was restored in 2006 after an absence of about 18 years. Join Jan = and Jamie to witness the winding Grand River. Meet in the parking lot of t= he Bloomingdale Community Centre at 103 Snyder's Flats Rd. For more info please contact Jan or Jamie at 519 745-1375. Trail rating: moderate. Portions of the trail tend to be wet so wear sturdy hiking boots. No dogs, baby buggies or smoking on this hike.
